Gimel “Young Guru” Keaton is a legendary audio engineer, best known for his work behind iconic musicians including Jay-Z, Beyonce, Alicia Keys and more. As an engineer, Young Guru has worked on almost every Jay-Z album since 2001's The Blueprint, earning a Grammy nod for his work on "Empire State of Mind" in 2011. As a live DJ, he has performed on-stage with Jay-Z for over a decade, including the "Watch the Throne" tour with Kanye Weset. His credits include work on albums by Mariah Carey, Sade, Drake, Ludacris, Snoop Dogg, T.I., Ghostface Killah, and dozens more.
Guru's deep history as a DJ and producer has helped him shape the sound of worldwide hits for nearly twenty years. A lifelong educator at heart, Guru served as the official Artist-in-Residence at USC’s Thornton School of Music where he oversaw the creation of its first-ever Music Production Degree. Guru’s ability to communicate complex technical terms, not only to artists but students, creatives and business professionals alike, has led to his reputation as a leader who bridges the gap between hip-hop and the tech community.
